"I, Lauren, promise to keep my side of the room clean..."
As we signed the roommate agreement on August 25th, Krista and I became closer than we ever were: we became roommates.

"Dorm Sweet Dorm"
Now, here we are. It's September 26, 2012, and we are both alive. We have survived the 90° temps (with NO A/C might I add), the 30 minute walks to class, and even the atrocious dining hall food. Most importantly, we have survived our FIRST MONTH OF COLLEGE.

"Phew, we made it!"
So, what's happened so far?
Well . . . Krista spent her first night at college alone. :( She had to be "Ms. Above and Beyond" and come to college a week early! Just kidding. Band Camp ended on the 24th, and move-in day for our dorm wasn't until the 25th. Lucky for her, her parents were not bringing her things until the 25th, so she got to spend an entire night getting cozy and adjusted to her new dorm. She slept with no sheets, no comforter, no air conditioner, no fan... needless to say, she was glad when I arrived (probably more excited to see her parents with all her stuff!).
Don't worry, Krista has adjusted well from her first miserable night at college. . .

I have settled in quite well, too.

Our room (pre-fire marshall)
Krista and I enjoy laughing because of the height of my bed. It's so tall, and I'm so short, I literally have to JUMP on the bed, and FALL off the bed. This is awful, and I often fall into the floor in the mornings. It's just another one of those #firstyearproblems. ;)

My first college meal: Ramen
Dining hall food is sometimes great, and at times, not so great. During these "not so great" moments, RAMEN is the solution.

UVA = Sustainability; I'm Eco-Friendly.
Oh, and just to mention, UVA is big on sustainability. Now, I recycle. You should too. It's not difficult, and plus, it saves room in those expensive trash bags! Think about it positively, it's better than having to use leaves rather than toilet paper because all the trees are gone, huh? :)
Anyway, let's see.
So far, I have learned that to be at UVA, I have to like football. More so, I have to go to football games. Whether or not I want to, the stadium is so close to my room, if I chose not to attend football games, I wouldn't be able to concentrate anyway.
So, now I'm a football fan. I dream about the "Cavalier First Down!" now because I hear it so often.

Go 'Hoos!
What else? We went to see the famous hypnotist, "Tom Deluca" sometime in the last month. He came to the Amphitheater, and let me tell you, it was awesome!

Hypnotist Tom Deluca
Hypnotism truly shows the depth of the human imagination. I don't think I'll ever forget "Let's go, water bottles!"--a chant by a fellow first year who was hypnotized to be the head cheerleader of our school. . . the trick was he didn't know the mascot!

The Rotunda at The University of Virginia
This is just a summary of my first month of college. I have more to come, but I'm tired right now. College classes are rough! Even rougher when they are at 8 am. :)
So, to leave you with a smile, enjoy my most amazing roommate and her most ingenious ideas. Since the bus stops don't have benches, she makes her own . . .

Good night!
xo.
